COVID-19 Virus Infection and Pregnancy

COVID-19 Virus Infection and Pregnancy

Coronavirus symptoms among pregnant women must not be ignored. The affected woman can go in for coronavirus treatment. Coronavirus treatment vaccine is the need of the hour.

People across the world are concerned about Covid -19 and so are pregnant women. Coronavirus has worried people much. It is better to understand its implications in pregnancy matters.

Coronavirus symptoms must be checked out. It is better to go in for coronavirus treatment in case one suffers from the virus.

Q1.   What effect does coronavirus have on pregnant women?

Pregnant women do not actually appear to be more severely unwell in case they do develop coronavirus as compared to the general population. As this does happen to be a new virus, it may affect an individual which is not yet very clear. It is rather expected that the large majority of pregnant women will indeed experience only mild or moderate cold/flu-like symptoms.

More severe symptoms such as pneumonia do tend to appear to be more common in older people, those who have weakened immune systems or long-term conditions. There are no reported deaths of pregnant women from coronavirus at the moment. coronavirus treatment vaccine is essential in such a situation.

In case a person happens to be pregnant to be more vulnerable to infections than a woman who is a person not pregnant. In case of an underlying condition, such as asthma or diabetes, a person can, in fact, be sicker if the person is suffering from coronavirus.

Q2.   What effect will coronavirus have on the baby if the would-be-mother is diagnosed with the infection?

People are coming to know more about this new virus. There is not much evidence to suggest an increased risk of miscarriage. There is also no evidence that the virus can rather pass to the developing baby while one is pregnant (this is called vertical transmission). It is therefore considered unlikely that if a person is suffering from the virus it will cause abnormalities in the baby. Coronavirus treatment can be had.

Some babies who are born to women with symptoms of coronavirus in China have been born prematurely. It is rather unclear whether coronavirus caused this or the doctors who made the decision for the baby to be born early because the woman was unwell.

Q3.   What can I do to reduce my risk of catching coronavirus?

It is necessary to wash the hands regularly and also effectively as soon as a person comes from public places to one’s home or workplace.

Q4.   What is travel advice if I am pregnant?

All individuals, including pregnant women, need to ensure they have adequate insurance arrangements prior to travel. It is necessary to checkout on travel insurance as it provides cover for birth and care of the newborn baby in case one gives birth while abroad.

Q5.   What should I do if I think I may have coronavirus or been exposed?

If a person is pregnant and has either of these symptoms :

  • A high temperature
  • A new, continuous cough

It is important to stay at home for 7 days.

Q6.   How will I be tested for coronavirus?

The process for diagnosing coronavirus infection is no doubt undergoing rapid change. In the case of a test being required a pregnant woman is tested in the same manner as a normal person.

Q7.   What should I do if I test positive for coronavirus?

In case a person tests positive for coronavirus, it is better to contact the midwife or antenatal team in order to make them aware of the diagnosis. In case the person has no symptoms, or mild symptoms, the individual concerned will be advised to recover at home. In case of very severe symptoms, then admission to the hospital is required. Coronavirus treatment vaccine is beneficial for affected people.
